Cape Town - South Africa's beach attractions sure do standout as they keep flying the tourism hotspot flag, this time ranking as one of the best safari and beach destinations according to The Telegraph for 2017.

South Africa's golden sands at the Thonga Beach Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal have seen it being listed ahead of the likes of Florida, Japan and Cuba.

"Here is where you will relax in your thatched bush suite, over looking Africa's most unspoilt wilderness beaches."  We couldn't agree more as the destination, forming part of South Africa's first world heritage site the iSimangaliso Wetland park.

And there is no better place in Southern Africa than iSimangaliso in north-eastern KwaZulu-Natal to witness one of the oldest rituals on the planet. Every year, for the past 100 million years, female leatherback turtles have emerged from the ocean – mostly at night - to lay their eggs on beaches - read all about photo-journalist Scott Ramsay's experience here - The turtles of iSimangaliso
