Cape Town - Boasting a fresh re-branding of its cable cars, Table Mountain Cableway re-opens on Monday 7 August (weather permitting), after a two-week annual shutdown for maintenance and upgrades.

Exciting new changes to Cape Town's popular tourist spot - and one of the official new 7 Wonders of Nature - includes an exit and entrance switch at the top station, and resurfaced pathways. The Café and Visitor Centre also have new looks after a few changes.

“Work done during the annual maintenance period ensures we meet the highest global cableway safety standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways,” says Cableway’s Managing Director Wahida Parker.

“Delivering a world-class offering is something we constantly strive for so during this year’s shutdown we took the opportunity to make some important changes that will further enhance the visitor experience,” she adds.

Parker says that the changes made are based on feedback from visitors and suggestions or ideas from staff.

Visitors to Table Mountain are advised that lifts at the Lower Station are still being upgraded and this will continue until 23 October.

"As only one lift will be operational during this time, the Cableway is encouraging those visitors who can to make use of the stairs to get to the departure area of the cable cars," says Parker.

Visitors must also note that recent adverse weather conditions caused delays, resulting in some areas remaining under construction.

"If your birthday fell within the closure period, you can claim your free birthday ticket from the Lower Station Ticket Office before 13 August," says Parker, reminding that you will need to carry your South African ID to claim this.

In addition, Kidz Season runs until 30 September, giving two children under 18 years a free return trip when an adult return ticket is bought. The special is only valid on weekends, public holidays and during school holidays - and there's a public holiday around the corner, so make the most of it!
