Cape Town - The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has confirmed its ability to issue passports and Smart ID's has been impacted due to a technical fault.
DHA spokesperson David Hlabane says the department is facing challenges with the Live Capture system for passports and smart ID cards.
"This is due to problems on the Home Affairs National Identification System (HANIS) which have affected turnaround times in some DHA offices.
Technicians are currently replacing damaged equipment on the system.
"This only affects offices with the Live Capture system. Other services, including births, marriages and deaths registration are not affected. The Department extends heartfelt apologies to all clients for any inconvenience caused," says Hlabane.
The DHA expected to be back online before the end of the day.
