Durban - The wonderfully acclaimed Essence Festival is back, running for its third year in a row and it will be held in Durban. It functions to bring together the vibrant talent and culture of South Africa.

The Essence Festival will take place from 26 September - 1 October 2017 at the Durban ICC and the first phase line- up of the festival has been announced to include an array of artists from Hip Hop star Nasty C to Gospel ID finalists.
The festival will also include appearances by Somizi Mhlogo and talks by Bishop TD Jakes.
The international festival is bringing the best of local and international talent to Durban ICC.
The festival is comprised of various show casings - from live music to crafts and local produce.
Mayor of Ethekwini Municipality and Councillor Zandile Gumede stated "The Essence Durban Festival program is diverse, informative, thought provoking and fun. It is focused on talent, cultural, economical and business development which connect with many people" , relaying that the Festival is to benefit Kwazulu- Natal and the city's economy.
This is supported as in 2016 - the festival had over 60 000 attendees from across the country and resulted in providing R 230 million into the province's GDP.
Gumede added, "We are proud to partner with Time Inc's because we are both equally passionate about communities, economic empowerment, youth development and wellness".
Party with a purpose
The Festival follows a similar theme to the Annual New Orleans event which is 'party with a purpose'. The festival is not only about music but is inclusive of various elements from tech innovation to fashion and style. The is a wide range of sectors that the festival targets and show cases.
There will be business workshops by local business and inspirational leaders such as Dr. Judy Dlamini. The festival aims to create an environment where attendees can engage in all the aspects of life and toward general improvement and growth.
The festival will also be presenting some of the best writers of South African from Fred Khumalo to Deon Meyer - they will share they latest books and provide an understanding into their world of writing. This will also include international authors providing talks on their works.
The Essence Festival in New Orleans took place from 29 June - 2 July 2017 and featured some local talent such as Africa Mamas and Afro Soul - providing a platform for local music to be heard abroad.
The multi-day event promised to be full of exhibitions, talks, workshops, installations and debates. From performances to family building workshops-the festival is about enhancing, empowering, building communities and instilling positive thinking through spearheading Africa’s growth.
