According to the "the first worldwide ideas competition", its goal is to generate 10 000 ideas - competing with other cities around the world in real time - with the aim of finding solutions to 5 societal and environmental challenges facing the city such as;
How might Cape Town's water security be ensured?
How can congestion be eased?
In what ways might fires in informal settlements be prevented?
In what ways might affordable housing in the CBD and surrounding suburbs be provided?
How can the city’s capacity be built for social entrepreneurship?
According to the initiative, this is a celebration of dreams and creativity.
"Dozens of cities from all around the world will compete simultaneously to see which city generates the most ideas.
"But Ideas World Cup is not simply a competition; it is based on the desire to change the world. Be part of something spectacular."
