Weather Update: Hot and sunny weekend for most of SA

Cape Town –  Hot and sunny conditions can be expected for most parts of South Africa as we head into the weekend, while light showers have been forecast for parts of KwaZulu-Natal, northern parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo as well as the central and northern parts of the North West province.

The SA Weather Service has also issued a warning of extremely high fire danger conditions, expected across the western and central interior the Eastern Cape, the Northern Cape as well as the Central and Little Karoo of the Western Cape.

On Friday, March 17 there is a 30% chance of rain expected across the interior regions of Gauteng, northern parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, central and northern parts of the North West province.

There is also a 30% chance of rain in the southern coastal parts of the Western Cape on Saturday morning, March 18.


The coastal areas can expect cool conditions, warming up later in the day, while the northern and central parts will be hot. It will be warm in the Western Cape, hot in the Northern Cape and very hot in the Eastern Cape. 

The hottest spots in the country will be Upington in the Northern Cape, Beaufort West in the Western Cape, Craddock and Graaf-Reinet in the Eastern Cape as all four cities will reaching a high of 37°C, followed by Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape and Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape both reaching a peak of 36°C.

Johannesburg and Pretoria in Gauteng Pretoria will both be 28°C. Bloemfontein in the Free State will reach 31°C.

Along the rest of the coastal regions of SA, Cape Town in the Western Cape will be 23°C, while Durban on the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal will reach 30°C and Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape reaching a peak of 31°C.
