Cape Town - On Thursday Cape Town's skies were lit up as a rare thunderstorm passed through the city.
A heat wave hit Eastern, Western and Northern Cape, which resulted in an uncharacteristic thunderstorm for the area.
In Cape Town residents were met by an amazing sky light show that continued into the evening, accompanied by rolling thunder.

For Instagrammers and Tweeple Christmas came early as they captured amazing photos and video of the lightning, especially for Capetonians unaccustomed to thunderstorms.
The northern provinces like North West, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Free State and some parts of KZN were hit by thunderstorms last week. The country has been experiencing adverse weather conditions the last two months, with a massive storm that caused millions of rands of damage in Durban.

Northern South Africans were just happy it wasn't hitting them for a change.
