Cape Town - Bring on the layovers... we're ready! If we can be trapped inside some of these uber-luxurious VVIP airport terminals, that is...
Come 15 May this year, an exclusive new terminal aimed at serving VIP passengers only will be opening at Los Angeles International Airport.
Travellers who pass through the new, exclusive centre - aka The Private Suite - will have their own dedicated TSA security line, luxurious suites in which to wait for their flights and direct-to-tarmac transportation in a BMW 7-Series sedan, Travel+Leisure says.
Arriving at The Private Suite, travellers will be assigned a staff of eight people and escorted to their own personal suites. There, they will find their own bathroom, food pantry, two-person daybed and direct views of the airport runways.
The cost for the uber-luxury experience will be $3 500, or more than R46 000, for domestic flights and $4 000, or over R53 000, for international. The price covers three passengers, so VIPs can travel with a small entourage.
The service is the first of its kind in the US, but certainly not in the world.
Following the announcement of The Private Suite's opening at LAX, we checked out four other luxury layover spots we'd love to see. The South African inclusion is truly something...

Heathrow VIP is a private and personal service offering a luxurious and exclusive transition through Heathrow.
Even before boarding, security procedures occur within passengers' suites, and passengers are driven by private luxury vehicle directly to the aircraft.
Additional services include a private Heathrow shopping experience, VAT refund service and private chauffeurs.
Experience exclusive comfort and premium-class service before you ever leave the ground in Germany... the VIPWing caters for relaxed, stress-free travel through the modern terminal.
In true German style, there's also a beer garden where flyers can "enjoy a stopover with a fresh beer and typical bavarian dishes".
If you're in a time-crunch, however, the terminal has individual suites, meeting rooms and conference suites.
Dubai South - United Arabic Emirates
December last year saw the opening of a VIP Terminal at Dubai South, the largest purpose-built facility of its kind in the world (no surprise here).
The terminal is poised to be a game-changer in the business aviation sector, offering VIP customers a seamless travel experience, coupled with time and cost efficiencies within a thriving aviation ecosystem.
According to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, speaking at the opening of the terminal, the country hoped for the centre to be the "world’s largest facility for private aviation".
South Africa's addition to the world's most luxurious airport terminals is very much on par with the global VIP standard, despite being in the news for altercations with the Department of Home Affairs last year.
The terminal has all the bells and whistles one would expect - from private chauffeurs to one-on-one security checks - along with some local flavour.

A major element incorporated into the interior design of the facility is that it doubles as an exhibit for its local artists. Through collaboration with a distinguished art gallery, Everard Read, paintings and sculptures add depth and focal points for the eye and help blend the cutting edge design of the facility with the history and rich culture of the South African people
The airside of the building consists of a two-story glass wall allowing unobstructed views of the ramp and the two monstrous hangars.
