Cape Town - One airline that just cannot seem to stay out of the news lately is America's United Airlines.
And social media cannot help but notice. If there is one thing the digital era has taught us it is that social media backlash for mistakes made by companies or brands can be all-consuming.
But when an airline puts themselves in a consistently bad light in the manner in which United has over the past month, well then perhaps they deserve all the twitter wrath they're getting right now.
Just last week and not so much the fault of the airline, a 58-year-old American man was removed from a flight due to "mischief" after officials found a mock improvised explosive device inside his suitcase at Toronto's main airport" - see the full story here.
However, towards the end of March United Airlines found itself at the center of a social media storm after it barred two girls from boarding a flight in Denver because they were wearing leggings. The girls were travelling on staff tickets which are subject to a strict dress code policy - but needless to say Social Media was having none of it. See the full story here.
The latest incident involving a doctor being dragged off an overbooked flight has seen some intense backlash of note. A video of police officers dragging a passenger from an overbooked United Airlines flight surfaced on Monday 10 April, sparking an intense uproar - yet United's CEO Oscar Munoz defended his employees, saying they followed proper procedures and had no choice but to call authorities and remove the man.
As the flight waited to depart from Chicago's O'Hare Airport, officers could be seen grabbing the screaming man from a window seat, pulling him across the armrest and dragging him down the aisle by his arms.
United says it was trying to make room for four employees of a partner airline on the Sunday evening flight to Louisville, Kentucky.
Other passengers on Sunday night's United Express Flight 3411 are heard saying, "Please, my God," ''What are you doing?" ''This is wrong," ''Look at what you did to him" and "Busted his lip."
