Cape Town - Cuba is not yet on the radar of most South African travellers, who have the weak Rand in their pockets. However, in 2017, this is likely to change as Norwegian Cruise Lines has extended its affordable offering to the destination.
Voted the best-value-for-money cruise ship in the world, by the 2017 Cruisers’ Choice Awards, the Norwegian Sky will be offering 25 additional cruises from Miami to Cuba this year. The ship’s value offering includes over ten different dining options, a free open bar with unlimited complimentary beverages, and entertainment for the kids.
The Norwegian Sky has a youthful feel and offers flexible dining options and multiple venues for late-night drinking and dancing. Expect to see a lot of young couples and young families as well as friends on girlfriend getaways and guy's outings.
So, if you want bang for your buck, Cuba is the destination to visit in 2017. “The time to go to Cuba is now,” says Nick Wilkinson, Senior Director and General Manager Northern Europe and MEA for Norwegian Cruise Line.
“The destination is one of the remaining untouched destinations, and travellers should consider getting in before it gets over-developed and over-populated, and taking a cruise is the best way to do it.”

Norwegian Sky will sail four-day roundtrip cruises from Miami weekly featuring an overnight in the capital of Havana as well as a call on Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas.
The ship docks right in the heart of Havana, offering guests the opportunity to visit historical sites such as Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; view incredible art and listen to the vibrant local music scene; and visit with Cuba’s residents through people-to-people exchanges.
Norwegian will offer a selection of 15 half and full-day shore excursions, where guests aboard Norwegian Sky will have the opportunity to have a farm to table dining experience, explore the flora and fauna of Soroa, see modern Havana in an American classic car and much more.
Travellers from South Africa have a variety of affordable flight options from Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban to the United States via gateways in the US, Middle East and Europe.
