Fight between a male lion and two females captured incredible images

Cape Town - When you are on a wildlife visit you are most likely to come across some interesting findings or sightings, but in this case, it's not everyday one gets to witness a fight between the members of a majestic pride.

The "clash of the cats" shared by Wilderness Safaris, images show what is believed to be a "rather unusual brawl", according to Ona Basimane.

While on a visit to Gomoti during a bushcamp break in Botswana, Basimane describes the encounter as a "tranquil sighting" that into something rather unexpected.

"What started as a tranquil sighting of females and their young turned into a brawl when the dominant male showed up," says Basimane.

"He had always been welcome but on this occasion, it was clear he was not going to get a hug and a kiss after a long disappearance."

While lions a united pride, in most cases, it's clear that female lions don't always approve of their male counterpart's behaviour.

Basimane says as soon as the females caught sight of his mane coming through the brush it was tooth and nail. 

"We watched as the females charged at him and bowled him over with slaps. The vocalisations added to the intensity of the raw atmosphere.

"He eventually got up and ran for his life and the females were definitely happy with the punishment they dished out," says Basimane.

"Although this might have been an incredible experience to witness, Basimane says one of the females even ended up with some lacerations on her ear."

"It was an incredible experience to witness, especially as it took place very close to our vehicle. Did he have some lipstick on his collar, maybe?," concludes Basimane.
